MP3 Cut is one of the most basic music splitters available for Windows. The software is easy to use due to an interface that is simple and well rounded. It is especially helpful for separating hidden tracks, accessing pre-gap data and removing large chunks of silence.

There are three different ways to segment sound files. The default method allows users to cut up tracks based on time. For this approach to work, all it takes is knowledge of when to insert the break. The gap is chosen manually via input of minutes and seconds. The second style of splitting relies on size. This lets files be broken apart based on a desired megabyte allotment for each finished product. The final mode creates an array of equal length tracks. Users simply enter the amount of segments they want, and the program systematically creates identically sized audio files.

Bit-rate controls are adjusted to run automatically, but the default settings are not programmed to optimize audio quality. If the original is lost, then reduction in richness of sound will be irrevocable. This is why the capacity for manual input is invaluable. The only reason to settle for lesser production values is to make additional room on the disk; otherwise, there is no cause for the unnecessary compression. To avoid losing key frequencies, it is wise to adjust bits-per-second from 128 to 360.

An exceedingly stripped back design makes the program feel universal for PC users. Only core essentials are included with MP3 Cut, which means there are not any aesthetic visuals. Everything that is installed is vital to the software. This leads to an appreciably portable load, and the software barely occupies any space on the hard drive. In total, it only takes 1.7MB of room to run perfectly.

Drag-and-drop makes bulk file splitting a very simple task. Output folders are chosen at the same time as conversion to prevent finished products from being lost. The interactive chart lets users employ cuts in real-time during streaming. They can make adjustments down to the second. While in motion, the program keeps a succinct log to catch any errors. These graphs are also useful for evaluating system performance.

The streamlined interface offers little explanation for the customizable options, so users will need a prior familiarity with MP3 lingo and terminology. It is still easy enough to use for amateur computer owners, but they may accidentally damage some of their music collection if they do not take certain precautions. When shrewdly used, the software can be applied to restore fluidity between unnaturally broken tracks, but it fails to subsequently rejoin them fully. This requires a separate joiner.
